What a great performance & successful fundraiser! The ceiling of the ballroom at The Emerson was completely covered in flowers! We were impressed with the tremendous support from the community and the overall experience.
A special thanks to George Kahrl & Maria Smith-Lachman for inviting us and hosting such an incredible event. We enjoyed seeing your ideas and vision come to life and we were honored to be a part of it. We can't wait to see how this show develops and evolves in the future!
IndepenDANCER Lisa Lord spoke about her experiences at the It's All About Giving event on October 16th, 2015. Here's what she had to say:
In 2011, I attended the Independance performance here at the Emerson. I came to watch my friend perform. I sat mesmerized absorbing the styles of dance, styles of bodies, styles of brilliant choreography. A wiggle began deep in my bones, a passion perhaps, but I knew that I MUST dance. At a crossroads in my life, I really wanted to stand up straight. I really wanted to point my toes. I really wanted to move with grace, move beyond the past in a new way. I hadn't danced in 35 years...quite awkward at first (did I mention I felt awkward). I was encouraged, instructed, empowered by patient and kind, amazing teachers. They wooed the rhythm right out of me. Since 2012 I have performed in every production of Independance. I take classes, I practice choreography in grocery store lines, on hiking trails and at the post office. I smile the entire time like a 3 year old in shiny patent leather shoes with bows. My wiggle thrives. Dancing has expanded my creative perceptions of my own art and continues to encourage my authentic self to emerge. What I appreciate the most is this art form is embraced in this community. Performing on stage isn't for everyone but dancing is. Let us entertain and inspire you.. and go on find your wiggle...I know it's there...It will make you HAPPY!
